Greater Anglia has announced that it will be running a full service during the upcoming RMT strike day on the 5th May 2018.
Conductors are on 40% of Greater Anglia trains, which the remaining routes, such as London Liverpool Street from Essex, Cambridge, Hertfordshire and Suffolk do not have a conductor.
This strike day will not affect passengers travelling to Newmarket for theQIPCO Guineas Festival on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 May.
The train operating company will be adding extra carriages to trains between Ipswich and Newmarket to create more room for racegoers.
What did the officials say?
Jamie Burles, Greater Anglia Managing Director, said:
“We are very disappointed that the RMT has announced further strikes. We'd like to reassure customers that we will be running a full service on this day, using our contingency conductors.
“In recent weeks, we have had some constructive talks with RMT union officials and offered a proposal which we hoped would resolve this issue. Unfortunately, the RMT has rejected it.
“Our position remains the same: we highly value our conductors, we're keeping them on our trains, but we want them to concentrate on customer service rather than opening and closing doors. We will continue to talk to the RMT to try to find an acceptable solution.”
