ScotRail has today urged commuters to go home early ahead of the severe Red Warning of snow which is expected to hit this evening.
The Met Office has made the red warning, which means prepare for a risk to life and property, ahead of the severe amount of snow which is expected to fall over the night of Tuesday and Wednesday Morning.
ScotRail has said that it's train services will stop at 6 pm where the areas of the Red Warning for the weather.
The warning is in effect from 3 pm today (28th February 2018) until 10 am on the 1st March 2018.
During this time, ScotRail will NOT be running any train services.

Cancelled Services (correct as of 3pm on 28/03)
To/From Glasgow Queen Street
- All Glasgow Queen Street to Anniesland via Maryhill services in both directions
- Services via Partick are unaffected
- 0636 Glasgow Queen Street to Lenzie
- 0734 Lenzie to Glasgow Queen Street
- 0713 Kirkcaldy to Glasgow Queen Street
- 1733 Glasgow Queen Street – Markinch
After 2030 only
- Departures at 18 and 48 minutes past the hour from Glasgow Queen Street to Croy
- Departures at 17 and 47 minutes past the hour from Croy to Glasgow Queen Street
To/From Glasgow Central
- All Glasgow Central to Barrhead in both directions
- You can use your rail ticket on McGill's buses between Nitshill, Priesthill & Darnley, Pollokshaws West and Glasgow Central.
To/From Edinburgh Waverley
- Services that start/terminate at Cowdenbeath
- All other services via Cowdenbeath will run as normal
- Departures at 8 minutes past the hour from Edinburgh Waverley to Glenrothes via Aberdour
- Departures at 20 minutes past the hour from Glenrothes to Edinburgh Waverley via Aberdour
- Departures at 3 minutes past the hour from Edinburgh Waverley to Dunblane
- Departures at 28 minutes past the hour from Dunblane to Edinburgh Waverley
To/From Aberdeen
- 1552 Aberdeen to Inverurie
- 1636 Aberdeen to Stonehaven
- 1747 Aberdeen to Stonehaven (this is the 1529 from Inverness)
To/From Dundee
- 0603 Carnoustie – Dundee
- 1746 Dundee to Arbroath (this is the 1611 from Glasgow Queen Street)
- 1820 Arbroath to Dundee (this train will run between Dundee and Edinburgh)
- 1855 Dundee to Carnoustie (this is the 1711 from Glasgow Queen Street)
To/From Inverness
- 1817 Perth to Inverness
- This service will continue to Inverness as part of the 1900 departure
Altered Services (correct as of 3pm on 28/03)
To/From Glasgow Queen Street
- The 1611 Glasgow Queen Street to Arbroath will terminate at Dundee
- The 1711 Glasgow Queen Street to Carnoustie will terminate at Dundee
To/From Edinburgh Waverley
- The 1520 Glenrothes to Tweedbank will start from Edinburgh Waverley at 1624
- The 1619 Glenrothes to Tweedbank will start from Edinburgh Waverley at 1722
- The 1820 Arbroath to Edinburgh will start from Dundee at 1844
To/From Inverness
- The 1529 Inverness to Stonehaven will terminate at Aberdeen
- The 1817 Perth to Inverness will continue to all stations as part of the 1900 Perth to Inverness service
Over the coming days Network Rail will:
- Use a £1million winter train to defrost points.
- Use snow ploughs across the network.
- Have staff clearing snow from the tracks.
- Deploy ‘chainsaw gangs' to clear fallen branches and debris.
- Use a ‘wire sweeper' overnight on some of our electrified routes.
What did the officials say?
Mark Ilderton, Head of Integrated Control at the ScotRail Alliance, said “ScotRail Alliance teams across the country will be working flat out to keep people moving over the next few days. From snow ploughs travelling the network to staff gritting station platforms to keep them safe, we'll be doing everything we can to get people where they need to be.
“The safety of our staff and customers is our priority, and is central to every decision we take.
“The vast majority of our services will run, but following the latest advice from the Met Office we have had to cancel or amend some services on Wednesday and Thursday. Journeys will also take a bit longer as speed restrictions will be in place.
“We are advising all customers to check @ScotRail on Twitter, download our app, or visit journeycheck.com/scotrail for the most up to date information before travelling.”
