Disruption to services in West Yorkshire, as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) that required the railway to be closed for ten days, has been successfully completed.
Between Friday, 29 March and Sunday, 7 April, engineers worked around the clock between Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe to carry out major upgrades to the railway infrastructure.
During the line's closure, engineers:
- Carried out mining remediation work at Ravensthorpe and Huddersfield.
- Laid over 700 metres of new track at Deighton and Mirfield.
- Installed a new bridge deck on the Huddersfield viaduct.

Whilst the line was closed, some trains were diverted via alternative routes, and rail replacement bus services were also provided.
The Transpennine Route Upgrade is a multi-billion pound programme that will transform journeys across the North of England.
The line between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York is being electrified and additional line capacity is being provided to enable the operation of faster and more frequent trains.
At Huddersfield station, two new platforms are being constructed, existing platforms are being extended with improved accessibility, and the track is being improved.
Between Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe, increased capacity is being provided by doubling the number of tracks from two to four.
