Northern: ‘No Experience Necessary’ for train driver roles in Lancashire and Yorkshire

is looking to recruit more than 300 drivers and conductors across the North of England this year.

Those recruits will add to the over 2,000 drivers and 1,400 conductors it employs to operate its services.

The recruitment drive is part of a normal process to replace existing staff members when they retire, are promoted, or leave Northern to join another company.

This year's target is to recruit 108 train drivers and 198 conductors, and the company is encouraging people from outside of the rail industry experience to apply.

Successful recruits will join a paid apprenticeship scheme at a Northern's training academies in or .

Train Driver Roles

Over the coming months, Northern will be recruiting train drivers in , , , , Leeds, , Manchester, , and .

Salaries start at £23,000 a year, which after recruits complete a 64-week training course, rises to £54,500 per year.

There is also a requirement for a limited number of qualified drivers in , Leeds, Manchester and .

Conductor Roles

There are vacancies for conductors in Barrow-in-Furness, Blackburn, Blackpool, , Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, , Workington and York.

These have starting salaries of £22,000 per year, increasing to £29,000 once recruits successfully complete a 16-week training course.
