The in plans to take advantage of the Easter Holidays by laying on loads of ‘egg-citing' exciting activities for children during their visit to the railway.

At Station, there will be plenty of fun and free arts & crafts activities to keep children entertained on Wednesday 27th March & Wednesday 3rd April from 11 am to 3 pm.

There will be no need to book as they are drop-in sessions and will include decorating Easter eggs, making peg dolls, decorating chick-in-eggs jars, and plenty of other activities.

Children can take part in the traditional “hunt the Easter bunny” game as Easter bunnies will be hiding along the railway line. At , Bedale, and Leeming Bar stations there will be a Find the Bunnies Rail Trail on Wednesday, 27th, Good Friday, 29th March to Easter Monday, 1st April, and Wednesday 3rd April. There will also be a Find the Bunnies Rail Trail at Scruton on 27th March and 3rd April.

A free Trail booklet is available at all of the stations; succesful bunny hunters can earn a chocolatey reward.

Timetable

All train services start from Leeming Bar, with a shuttle service to Scruton departing from Leeming Bar for Scruton at 11:20, 12:05, 12:50, 13:48 and 14:28, and services to Leyburn departing from Leeming Bar for Leyburn at 09:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30.

The Railway

At 22 miles long, the Wensleydale Railway is one of the longest heritage lines in the UK. It currently operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton near and Leyburn on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

It has award-winning, restored historic stations where visitors can learn more about 1900s railway life whilst enjoying free guided tours with costumed living history interpreters.

  • Scruton is an award-winning, restored building set in the early 1900s.
  • Leeming Bar has been restored thanks to funding from the National Lottery.
  • Bedale is known as the gateway to the Dales, and the station is walking distance from the town. Be sure to grab a drink, sandwich and cake in our station tearoom!
  • Finghall Lane is a wonderful example of a small rural and has featured in Vera, All Creatures Great and Small and The Yorkshire Vet television series.
  • Leyburn is an attractive Yorkshire market town on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is a popular destination for hikers and dog walkers.
