East Yorkshire Model Railway Show returns for its 7th year

The 7th Annual Model Railway Exhibition at is just under a week away.

The Wolds Railway (YWR), East Yorkshire's only Heritage Railway, are finishing and finalising arrangements for the show that is due to take place on Saturday 9th March at the Rix Pavilion from 10am to 4pm at the Driffield Showground.

Business Development Director of the YWR Katy Bowser explained “the model railway show remains the main fundraising event for the YWR, and we look forward to seeing as many visitors as possible and all the money raised goes back into keeping the YWR on track. Entrance to the show costs £7 for adults, and £4 for children under 16 whilst YWR members can get in for £4 – so don't forget your membership card!”

Katy carried on to say: “Many of the layouts coming have not been to Driffield before including Low Fell, Padsbridge and Fox Valley. We will also have a large clockwork layout in 00 gauge that is sure to raise an interest. A number of the models are actually based on local areas, such as Settrington and Spurn Point, and seeing these in miniature and the effort modellers go to, to replicate the smallest detail is fascinating and we can't wait for visitors to come and see them.”

New season at the

The commencement of the YWR operating season will be on Sunday 31 March, after its winter maintenance program comes to an end.

From this date the YWR will open its visitor centre and be running trains every Sunday and Bank Holiday until the end of October, in addition the line will also be open every Wednesday during the school holidays.

Opening times across all operating days are 10am to 4pm.

Visitors can expect to ride on the newly restored brake van that entered service at the end of last year, as you travel the ¼ mile line at , which is located between the former Fimber and Wetwang stations on the Malton and Driffield Junction Railway.

For those that wish to visit on Saturdays when no trains are running, YWR members will be in attendance and will be happy to discuss and show the public what work is currently being under taken, this is subject to safety requirements first.
