Change of plan for 60163 Tornado’s visit to Peterborough

LNER A1 No. 60163 Tornado is currently undergoing an overhaul, and whilst this is now steaming towards being finished, the visit to the has had to be postponed.

Work on the locomotive has been extended and leaves insufficient time for testing of the locomotive before it was due to appear at the Nene Valley Railway at the end of March.

However, the locomotive is due to begin static testing in March and ETCS testing in April.

With this testing announced, the Nene Valley Railway has announced that they are working to bring Tornado to between the 21st and 27th May 2024.

Tornado's overhaul, combined with the fitting of ETCS, is rapidly approaching completion.

There have been the inevitable interruptions one would expect with a project of this complexity, and both ourselves and the Nene Valley Railway agree that the best approach to remove the risk involved is to push Tornado's appearance slightly to the right. The NVR team are now working on the revised schedule which we hope will not inconvenience too many. It is always a pleasure to operate at the Nene Valley and we look forward to renewing old acquaintances.”
