The has launched a new fundraising appeal ahead of its 2024 season.

The NYMR have titled their appeal ‘Hogsmeade Station Needs Your Help'

Bridge 24A is the access bridge that allows people to access Station, which is the filming location for Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and Philosopher's Stone.

Built in 1935 in its current form, the bridge is now starting to show its age with the weather conditions and time.

The steel girders that give strength to the bridge have been impacted and the bridge has now been deemed unsafe for vehicles to cross.

Donations are now necessary for the repair work to start on Bridge 27A, and once complete, will allow visitors and schools to learn about the importance of the railway.

Tim Bruce, Director of Civil Engineering at the NYMR, said, “Our bridges are absolutely crucial for an operating railway. Some of our bridges are over 150 years old and, despite regular maintenance work to care for them and prolong their lives, the metalwork is starting to show its age. The campaign to repair Goathland's Bridge 27a is essential to ensure that future generations will be able to access Goathland Station for many years to come. Donating just £10 gets us closer to our goal to rebuild the bridge, meaning we can reopen our magical station to the world.”

  • What astronomic wage bill as I understand the majority of the work force that keep this magical railway running are purely Voluntary

  • Just why was it allowed to get like this when a climbing enthusiast could have installed anchorages and rigged up a removeable ropeway to enable maintenance prep and painting.
Bit late when we can now see its age through some of the webs of the transverse beams!
After installation of new bridge or bridge parts, perhaps apply the final protective coating from a new ropeway?

  • “Donating just £10 gets us closer to our goal to rebuild the bridge, meaning we can reopen our magical station to the world.”
Does that mean that this bridge is currently closed so that Goathland station is inaccessible at the moment?

    • It says “to vehicles” so I’m presuming the car park is closed but access is still possible by foot.
