Alstom has completed a seven-year refurbishment of 270 carriages for the Stockholm metro.
Refurbishment of the Type C20 vehicles started in 2017 at the company's workshops in Västerås.
Since then 110 workshop fitters, 25 engineers, and several local subcontractors have worked to bring about a significant improvement in customer experience.
During the upgrade, existing materials were extensively reused to save costs and achieve environmental benefits, the interior layout was updated with an open design and new seating arrangements which allow quicker boarding and disembarking.
All seats were refurbished, and new passenger information systems, more handrails, and additional safety cameras were installed.
In total, the upgrade required the installation of 27,540 seats and used 110,160 screws and 240 kilometres of cable, and was carried out in close collaboration with Alstom's customer MTR and the end customer SL.
Over a thousand trains have been delivered by Alstom to the Swedish railways, with the company being the largest supplier to the country's railways.
Alstom also has several major maintenance contracts in the country and is leading the implementation of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) on Sweden's railways and along its tracks.
When complete, ERTMS will deliver a new national traffic management system for the Swedish Transport Administration.
