Suffolk railway to have Easter Steam Up Weekend

's only standard gauge heritage railway, The , nicknamed the “Middy” have announced that an Easter Steam Up Weekend will be the curtain raiser to their 2024 season.

Focusing on family entertainment, there will be chances to ride on the Victorian 4-wheeled coaches, visit the shed and museum, not to mention the café, the Middy real ale bar and the Shop.

There will also be Easter bunny hunts for children to participate in.

Locomotives expected to be in service over March 31 – April 1 are visiting locomotive Andrew Barclay 0-4-0st No.1219 ‘' built in 1910, the Cockerill Steam Tram Built in 1906 & ‘Shreddie' the Shredded Wheat Factory Shunter, which has previously won the HRAs Restoration award.

Attendees will have the chance to view the progress of 0-6-0ST No. 1604, which is currently under restoration, along with LNER Y7 No. 985, which will be in the Restoration Shed.

There will also be updates on the extension of the line to a new build halt at Aspall, which will double the length of the current railway.

Entry prices for the Easter Steam Up Weekend are £12.00 per Adult, £6.00 per Child (under 16), Families (2+2) £30.00 and concessions 65 and over £10.00.

A great day out for families and enthusiasts, the 2015 museum of the year, the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway offers a unique experience to what life was like on a rural railway at the start of the 20th century.
