Northern has revealed that it will introduce its new timetable as part of train timetable changes across the North of England and the rest of the Network Rail network, on Sunday the 10th of December.
The new timetable comes into effect following a week of industrial action by the drivers' union ASLEF, which will see Northern unable to run any train services on Friday the 8th of December.
The timetable changes will see the majority of Northern's services unchanged. However, some services will be slightly re-timed, including:
In the North East:
- A further two-hourly service will be introduced between Middlesbrough and Newcastle, however, these will not call at Hartlepool until platform works are completed.
In the North West:
- An increase or decrease in the number of carriages will be made in order to reflect customer demand including:
- Off-peak trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Buxton will operate with two carriages instead of four
- Quieter services between Manchester Airport and Blackpool North will operate with four carriages instead of six
- Liverpool will see some trains to Wigan operating with three carriages instead of four,
- Peak-time trains to Manchester Airport via Newton-le-Willows will see an increase in capacity, with services operating four carriages instead of three
In Yorkshire:
- Off-peak services between Doncaster and Leeds will operate with three carriages instead of four, this will free up carriages to boost capacity on morning peak-time services from Knottingley.
- The Knottingley to Leeds via Streethouse service will now feature extra carriages alongside a further stop at Outwood
- Some services between Bradford and Ilkley, Skipton and Leeds will run with three carriages instead of four.
- The 17:51 service between Huddersfield and Sheffield will be removed from the timetable
- The Leeds to Carlisle service will see fewer carriages which reflects lower customer demand during winter.
