A train operator is advising passengers to check before they travel due to temporary disruption over the next couple of weeks.
CrossCountry Trains has warned people to expect a high number of cancellations. There will be adjusted timetables, potential delays and, as a result, services are expected to be extremely busy.
The company has said that passengers catching the last train to their destination may find that the service is much busier than usual. People are being advised to allow extra time for the journey and to travel on additional services where they are provided to ensure a comfortable journey.
CrossCountry has said that it understands that this may inconvenience passengers and that they appreciate the ongoing support and understanding.
As the year draws to a close train operators can look back on a highly challenging year. Cancellations were increased because of the widespread industrial action and storms and other extreme weather episodes led to further cancellations and the imposition of speed restrictions which led to late running of services. An increase in Network Rail structural and embankment incidents is also being blamed for a rise in cancellations. Significant incidents on the CrossCountry network were seen at Nuneham, Plessey, Aycliffe and at Lydney.
Why pay big money to a rubbish train operator for tickets? My advice is to use a car or travel by coach. I have noticed that it is sometimes cheaper to fly from Exeter to Edinburgh or Glasgow than to use a Cross Country service.
CC cannot be as bad as North Western going to and fro from Nuneaton.
Lots of cancelled trains, so unreliable it is better to go to Manchester via London. Fares very expensive no day tickets so have to split tickets 8 times to get off peak day returns from Basingstoke to reduce costs.
Trains not long enough,which is my personal experience from using cross country.
Trains leaving new street with just 4 carriages is just crazy.
They have a cheek to put the fares up in March.
Absolutely appalling journey, I had to stand from Southampton to Birmingham, three hours, I’m in my seventies! Eventually had to sit on a filthy floor, I couldn’t stand any longer. So packed couldn’t even get through to the toilet! What is wrong with Cross Country? They should be ashamed of themselves.
Also what is wrong with passengers, not one fellow passenger bothered to ask if I was O K after slumping to the floor and having difficulty getting up again.
yes agree it’s a disgrace especially when the fares are expensive and are going up soon.
Always have a pleasant journey from Oxford to Bournemouth other things happen to slow journeys not to much to moan about take it in your stride
Cross country trains are the worse train I’ve ever had to travel on…filthy seats overcrowded and dangerous, this company should cease trading forthwith and the staff?? Ignorant does not come into it…….
This so called operater must be the worst on the railway system constantly over loading their trains nowhere to sit or place your luggage was better thirty years ago on the Wolverhampton to Southampton line
Cross-country has to be the worst service on the network. Full of excuses, old dirty trains and expensive tickets. Avoid them. I do.
Best buy an electric car then.
Use ths M40 & A34 they’re great way to travel (not).
