The 5% Club awards Gold membership to Transport for Wales

The accredited membership was awarded to TfW as part of the nonprofit Companies 2023-24 Employer Audit Scheme.

Transport for Wales has achieved Gold accredited membership as part of The 5% Clubs 2023-24 Employer Audit Scheme, which validates employers' activities, whilst exploring future plans and commitments including quality, social mobility, diversity and inclusion.

The special membership acknowledges the ongoing development and substantial contribution made by for ‘earn and learn' schemes, such as:

Launched in 2013, The 5% Club is a non-profit company and is made up of dynamic employers who campaign throughout the UK for better skills through training whilst supporting increased, inclusive and accessible workplace training for all. The movement aims to see more employment and career prospects for young people in order to build a skilled workforce across the UK.

The 5% Club now includes over 900 companies and represents more than 1.6 million employees, of which 101,000 are taking part in ‘earn and learn' schemes.

Transport for Wales is one of just 120 members able to meet the Gold Standard.

Bethan Jelfs, Transport for Wales People Director said:

“In February this year, we announced that TfW had become members of the 5% club, making a pledge to achieve 5% of our workforce in “earn and learn” schemes in the next five years.”

“This summer we took part in our very first audit, in the hope of achieving a gold, silver or bronze accreditation. We are so proud to learn that we have achieved a gold standard and are already hitting our 5% target.”

“This is a fantastic achievement, and we look forward to developing our work in this area even further.”

“Having seen The Club grow to more than 900 members, I am always impressed at the commitment, drive and energy our members channel into offering “earn and learn” skills opportunities.”

“To now see 20% of these members gain Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum accredited membership of The Club is inspiring and demonstrates how these companies are all contributing to the future of skills in our economy.”
