Train operator Northern are on the lookout for a new Chief Operating Officer

The position marks one of the biggest jobs within the rail sector, with recruitment now underway

August saw the current Chief Operating Officer of Northern, Tricia Williams, reveal that she will be taking over from Nick Donovan as Managing Director in the spring of next year. With the change in Tricia's career drawing nearer, the position of Chief Operating Officer, one of the biggest in rail, has now seen the recruitment process get underway.

The vital responsibilities of the Chief Operating Officer include the safe daily operations of 's trains, stations, engineering and control functions. The position also involves the shaping of strategy for the business, its operational performance, workplace culture alongside customer experience.

Tricia Williams said:

“There's no doubt this is one of the biggest jobs in rail – and I speak from experience.”

“It's also an incredibly rewarding role, knowing how big a contribution Northern makes to the local economies of towns and cities across the North of England.”

Tricia also paid tribute to Nick Donovan, who has held the position of Managing Director since March 2020 and went on to say:

“Under Nick's leadership, Northern has gone from strength to strength, including recognition from YouGov as one of the UK's top ten most improved brands for two years running.”

“He has also been a great mentor to me personally and I wish him all the best for the future.”
