has updated its mobile app so that cyclists can now use it to reserve spaces for their bicycles.

Until now, cyclists have only been able to reserve a space for their bicycles on ScotRail trains through the ScotRail website. The update now allows cyclists to seamlessly make reservations via the app, simplifying the process and making for a better customer experience.

The 2023 UCI Legacy Cycling Investment Programme is a £2 million investment and was unveiled ahead of this summer's 2023 UCI Cycling Championships. The programme is designed to create a sustainable legacy for cycling in Scotland and to facilitate its growth across the country. By updating its app, ScotRail has made a significant step towards realising that vision.

The legacy fund can be seen in other ways on ScotRail's trains as eye-catching green signage has been installed throughout ScotRail's fleet of trains. The signs show cyclists where there are designated bicycle storage areas on trains and show them the most suitable places to safely board the train and secure their bicycles. ScotRail is also introducing similar bright blue signage to the location of accessible carriages, ensuring inclusivity for all users.

At both Inverness and Fort William stations cycle hubs are being provided thanks to the legacy fund, and it will go towards the redevelopment of the Cycle Hub at Glasgow Queen Street to increase the number of bike spaces available.

David Lister, ScotRail's Safety, Engineering, and Sustainability Director, said: “ScotRail is committed to promoting active and sustainable travel options, whilst delivering the best possible service we can for customers.

“The introduction of cycle reservations through our app will benefit the whole cycling community, making it easier for customers to navigate and secure their cycle reservations with just a few taps.

“With this new feature, we're pedalling in the right direction toward a greener, more cyclist-friendly Scotland.”
