West Midlands Fire Service have released a statement after they attended an incident at Stetchford railway station over the weekend
Two fire engines from Sheldon and Ward End were dispatched to Stetchford station at around 5 pm on Saturday 2nd September.
The incident involved two teenage boys who had been electrocuted after touching overhead wires.
The boys had climbed on top of a goods train that was parked alongside the station, where they were electrocuted
The boys were treated for burns on scene before being sent to Birmingham Children's Hospital.
WMFS said in their statement “At approximately 17:00 on Saturday 2nd September, we responded to an incident at Stetchford railway station. This incident involved two teenage boys who had been electrocuted after touching overhead lines on the train track, after climbing onto the roof of a commercial goods train that was parked alongside the station.
The system is always live by default and should always be treated as such, just getting burns is astounding considering what 25kv could do and I would have expected fatalities at least.

As teens we’ve all dared each other to do daft things, but touching 25,000V electric wires is unbelievably stupid. Though it’s not a new thing. I remember at secondary school in the 1970’s, some teenage lads was daring each other how close to the railway electric wires they could get with a metal pole. Suffice to say, one got too close, and the right side of his face, right arm and hand was severely burnt. They are risking their lives. They are lucky to get away with being just severely burnt.
Wait for the operator of the train to be prosecuted because they left the train on a line, where it should be, without making it impossible for the little dears to trespass on the top of it.
Network could of stopped the train on the signals ,could having nothing to do with the operator of the train .
