Essential rail upgrades to impact Great Western Railway services between Bristol and North Somerset

GWR passengers are advised of work taking place from the 17th to 22nd of September, affecting Bristol Temple Meads and Weston-super-Mare

Passengers travelling with Great Western Railway are being advised of track upgrade work taking place from the 17th to the 22nd of September, which will affect journeys between and .

The work will see track replaced between and , upgrades between and Worle, and structural repair at .

During the planned period of work taking place from Sunday the 17th to and including Friday the 22nd of September, no trains will operate between and Weston-super-Mare.

Rail travel between Bristol Temple Meads and via will still be available to customers including diverted services.

Between Weston-super-Mare and Taunton and between and the South West via will also still be in operation.

Trains cannot stop at the following stations:

  • Bedminster
  • Parson Street
  • Nailsea & Backwell
  • Yatton
  • Worle
  • stations

During the essential work, rail replacement buses/coaches will be in operation for all stations which are affected.

Alex Hills, GWR's Station Manager for the Bristol area, said:

“This forms part of an ongoing programme that will enable us to continue to deliver safe and reliable services for travelling between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.”

“We will provide alternative road transport as well as ticket acceptance with First Bus on relevant local bus services in Bristol and North .”

“In addition, we have also agreed ticket acceptance on CrossCountry trains to ensure our customers can still complete their journeys during this time.”

Clarisse Grother, Network Rail's senior programme manager for the project, said:

“I'd like to thank passengers and lineside neighbours for their patience and understanding while we carry out essential track maintenance and replacement on the railway line between Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.”

“This track replacement work will enable continued safe and reliable journeys on the popular route for years to come.”
