Severn Valley Railway (SVR) has extended its early summer discounts for people living nearby to the whole of August, offering one-third off on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The offer applies to postcodes DY10, DY11, DY12, DY13, DY14, WV15 and WV16. Residents will need to show proof of their address when booking, such as a utility bill or driving licence.
People who buy full Freedom-of-the-Line tickets will also receive a voucher for a free return visit later in the year.
Local residents can pre-book tickets on SVR's website, or can buy their discounted tickets on the day of travel.
SVR is a standard gauge heritage railway in Shropshire and Worcestershire, named after the Severn Valley Railway Company that originally built the railway. It operates heritage diesel and steam locomotive along a sixteen-mile (26 km) line from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, following the course of the River Severn and crossing it on Victoria Bridge.
Lewis Maddox, SVR's visitor engagement manager, said, “With the school summer holidays now in full swing, we wanted to do our bit to help out our local cash-strapped families. If you're stuck for something to do with the kids, we've got the perfect solution, and you don't have to travel far to get to us.
“As well as the excitement of travelling on a heritage steam or diesel train, we've got all sorts of activities lined up for the summer holidays. The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley is hosting fun workshops with Sublime Science, including lessons on how to make slime. Plus there's a giant train set for youngsters to help build, and family crazy golf sessions. Children under four travel free, and so does the family pooch. It's the perfect day out, at a very affordable price.”
