RAIB: Two trains in Scotland exceed weather related speed restriction

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has released its preliminary examination into two incidents where trains exceeded the permitted speed in .

On 15th July 2023, the trains were travelling between and in Scotland and exceeded the max permitted speed between Blackford Signal Box and station.

The RAIB says that they found that a blanket emergency speed restriction had been put in place due to forecasted extreme rainfall.

After their preliminary examination, the RAIB says that they are going to publish a safety digest, which will be made available in the next few weeks.
