The East Lancashire Railway has announced that Lee Kenny has been appointed as Acting General Manager for the remainder of 2023.
Lee was previously Deputy General Manager, and joined the East Lancashire Railway 28 years ago.
He was ever present in the Traction & Rolling Stock Department before becoming head of the department 12 years ago.
Mike Kelly, Chairman at ELR said: “Lee has been a leading voice at the East Lancashire Railway community for over 28 years.
“We are in the thick of one of our busiest times of year and Christmas activity this year will be ramping up further with lots of plans for Santa Specials.The Board are confident that at this crucial time the railway is in a safe pair of hands with Lee.”
Lee Kenny added: “This is a great opportunity for me personally to have the chance to lead the railway I have known and loved for almost three decades of my life.
“My focus for the remainder of this year is delivery of key events like our Thomas, Halloween & Santa trains and to continue the important work that the ELR does working with key local community partners, the ELR trust partners and our own internal groups and updating our staff and safety processes.
“I am confident we can rise to every challenge as a team. The ELR is fuelled by our passionate, dedicated team of volunteers and staff and we couldn't survive without their loyal support.”v

Given how much trouble the last GM has caused by excluding Mrs Crompton from the railway over a complaint that women weren’t been treated equally or we’re being harassed they deffinately needed someone to replace him.
Your comment is factually incorrect. Ms Crompton was told her services were no longer required because she contravened the social media policy.
At no point did her social media posts contravene any policies, all her posts where checked independently by the HRA and they concluded she’d done nothing wrong. She was dismissed for standing up for volunteers rights, something the board has been ignoring for years and they didn’t want anyone upsetting the applecart
