Govia Thameslink Railway, who is the UK's largest rail operator, is looking for Level 1 service engineers to work across its Brighton, Battersea and Selhurst depots. The entry-level positions will see budding engineers work under the supervision of team leaders and managers and will involve:
- Repair work
- Component changes
- Taking part in maintenance and fault finding for trains and train parts
The rail operator is eager to hear from people with hands-on experience in engineering or mechanics and, if possible, hold an NVQ within this area. Degree-level qualifications are not required for these positions.
The vacancies are currently live and can be found on the Govia Thameslink Railway career site by selecting engineering. The positions feature a competitive starting salary of £37,877.
Yvonne Baiden is a fantastic example of making a career change and at age 51, joined the rail operator to begin her career in engineering. Yvonne works at the Selhurst depot and hopes that females of all ages will apply for the positions.
Jensen Joy joined Govia Thameslink Railway's engineering apprenticeship programme last year at the age of 16. Jensen is now enjoying his second year working with the rail operator and earning a wage.
