model railway exhibition took place earlier this month (July) and was created in association with the Ellesmere Model Railway Society, taking place over two days.

The event saw an array of model railway layouts alongside exhibit stands and took place at and Weston Wharf. The North railway has since revealed that the event saw excellent attendance, with more than 300 attendees marking it as a huge success.

The heritage railway won an award earlier this year, celebrating its volunteer excellence from the British Museum as part of its national annual awards.

The railway operates both steam and diesel locomotives between Oswestry and Weston Wharf on the two-mile former Cambrian/GWR, which was officially opened in 2021 following its abandonment 50 years prior.

Cambrian Heritage Railways General Manager, Andy Green, said: “This was our first model railway exhibition held in association with our Ellesmere Model Railway Society colleagues.”

“The railway exhibition went far beyond our expectations, drawing a large crowd of enthusiasts and modellers to our railway, many for the first time. There was an excellent selection of layouts, with something for everyone. “

Cambrian Heritage Railways will be operating trains (steam and heritage diesel) every weekend until September alongside specific mid-week dates and evenings including Bank Holidays.
