Škoda Group to supply traction motors for Australia’s new trams

Škoda Group has entered a partnership with to supply traction motors to Alstom as part of its contract to supply trams to in .

Between next year and November 2028, Škoda Group will deliver 400 traction motors for 100 trams to Melbourne, with an option for a further 720 motors. In total, the contract is worth €13 million. This is the first time that Škoda has secured and order from Australia.

The traction motors that Škoda twill supply for Melbourne's trams are based its successful FCX range of motors. These motors are designed to be mounted longitudinally, weigh 360kg, and have an output of 105kW that drives the tram axle via a two-speed gearbox.
