This Saturday, 29th July, East Midlands Railway (EMR) services will be severely disrupted because of industrial action by members of the RMT union, with only one train an hour on many routes.
Services that do run will only operate between 07:30 and 18:30, and the last trains will depart between 15:00 and 16:30.
Trains will be further disrupted between Monday, 31st July and Saturday, 5th August, and between Monday, 7th and Saturday, 12th August, because of action short of a strike by the ASLEF union that will probably result in several late notice cancellation.
Cancellations may not be imposed until 22:00 on the day before customers travel, therefore during this period, customers should check regularly check to find out whether their train is running before setting off to travel.
Strike action will also affect services by other operators throughout the country, with very limited services running across the whole rail network. Customers should therefore only attempt to travel by rail if absolutely necessary.
If a train is cancelled or delayed or a customer decides not to travel because of the strike action, they can change their tickets to another date, or return the ticket to where they bought it to obtain a full refund; no administration fee will be charged.

EMR Intercity
- One train per hour between Nottingham and London St Pancras
- One train per hour between Sheffield and London St Pancras
EMR Connect
- One train per hour between Corby and London St Pancras
EMR Regional
- One train per hour between Derby and Nottingham
- One train per hour between Derby and Matlock
- One train per hour between Sheffield and Nottingham
- One train per hour between Leicester and Nottingham
- Between Nottingham and Skegness there will be a two-hourly service, with trains only calling at Grantham, Sleaford, Boston, and Skegness. Customers travelling to Skegness customers must book their journey in advance, but if they have already booked and their train is cancelled, they can use their ticket on the service before or after.
There will be no trains on all other East Midlands Railway routes will be closed, and no rail replacement bus services will be provided.
Will Rogers, Managing Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “We will be significantly reducing our services on Saturday due to the ongoing strike organised by the RMT union.
“From Monday, 31 July to Saturday, 5 August, and Monday, 7 August to Saturday, 12 August, there will likely be several train cancellations – this is due to action short of a strike by the ASLEF union.
“Cancellations could be as late as 22:00 the day before customers travel. During this period, customers are strongly advised to regularly check if their train is running before setting off.
“It is recommended that customers also check the departure time of their last train before embarking on their journey and familiarise themselves with the overall impact of the strike on their entire route.
