Second platform for Dore and Totley station to see work get underway

Dore & Totley station in will see work get underway to build a second platform this Saturday the 15th of July as part of the Railway Upgrade. The station's original island platform was demolished some 30 years ago in the 1980s.

Further improvements will also be made at the station, including the installation of a fully accessible footbridge with lifts. The work will also see a second line of track with through the station alongside an extension of the Dore South Curve railway line.

The Hope Valley Railway Upgrade will bring new infrastructure and track alongside upgrades for several stations, which will provide line speed and journey time improvements alongside increased reliability for passengers travelling between Manchester and Sheffield on the Hope Valley line.

The large-scale programme will also see a new passing loop at , which will support passenger trains to pass freight trains travelling at lower speeds. will also see the completion of a newly installed footbridge, which has replaced Hathersage West level foot crossing.

Rail Minister, Huw Merriman said: “Building a second platform at the bustling station in Sheffield is another way the Government is demonstrating its continued commitment to transforming travel in the North.”

“Through our Hope Valley Railway Upgrade, we are easing bottlenecks, delivering more capacity and improving connectivity and reliability between two dynamic Northern cities, Sheffield and ”.

  • Good to see a new platform being built at Dore and Totley. Bit like at Dunbar on the East Coast Main Line that used to have just 1 platform before a new platform 2 was built in the Edinburgh direction.

  • This is good news and a much needed improvement. It emphasises the short sightedness of railway management in the 1980s. Having shut completely the other main Sheffield to Manchester route (Woodhead) it was extraordinarily short-sighted to single track most of the Hope Valley route and demolish the second platform at Dore & Totley
