Mid Suffolk Light Railway announces details of August events

Prepare for a journey back in time this summer with the 's (The Middy) exhilarating programme of attractions.

Every Sunday, the Middy promises more than steam train rides in its authentic Victorian four-wheel coaches. The railway offers a spectacular show of classic and vintage vehicles and its annual display of model trains, boats, and planes.

Mark your calendars for the 6th of August, the Steam Railway & Vintage Bus Day. With the help of our partners from the Eastern Transport Society, expect an exciting day of vintage bus rides around the local area. Of course, the day would only be complete with the Middy's trademark vintage steam train rides.

On the 13th of August, get ready for the Big Bus Show & Steam Punk Day. The Middy will collaborate with The Big Bus Show to provide bus services from Brockford to Stonham Barns and back, offering a two-centre day out with free rides to the Stonham Barns complex. The day also promises a thrilling exhibition from the world of Steam Punks with their extraordinary steam technology displays.

If you are a fan of British motorcycle history, you should attend the 20th of August, which is the Steam Railway & Royal Motor Club Day. Once a familiar sight on UK roads, the iconic Royal Enfield motorcycles will be featured at our station concourse.

On the 27th and 28th of August, the Model Mania & Collectors Days will mark the return of model hobby enthusiasts showcasing their trains, boats, planes, and road vehicles. Visitors will also see stunning displays and layouts by collectors of the beloved Hornby and Hornby Dublo model railways.

The season's grand finale will be on the 3rd of September for the Steam Railway & Vintage Tractor Day. The Tivetshall Old Ram Vintage Tractor Club will delight attendees with their annual vintage tractor display.

Visitors can enjoy as many train rides as they wish during each event. The MSLR facilities, including the Museum, Shop, Café, Restoration Shed, and even a real ale bar, will be open for your enjoyment.

The Middy's steam locomotives will occasionally be joined by the award-winning Shredded Wheat shunter, known for its delightful shunting demonstrations. Despite its diesel power, the copper-capped exhaust chimney offers a distinct steam-like effect.

Open from 10:30 to 16:30, the Middy provides a captivating experience for families and rail enthusiasts. Prices are £12.00 for adults, £6.00 for children under 16, £30.00 for a family package (2 adults and two children), and £10.00 for concessions (over 65).
