For those who have dreamt of being at the helm of a locomotive, this is a unique opportunity to fulfil that desire. Visitors are invited to take the reins and be a ‘driver for a fiver', experiencing the thrill of driving a locomotive under the expert supervision of the railway's skilled staff.

Throughout the event, the railway's tearoom and shop will be open, offering delicious refreshments and souvenirs for attendees to enjoy. The scenic location of Lido provides the perfect backdrop for a delightful day out.

While entry to the event is free, normal fares will apply for those who wish to ride along the 1.02-mile line—the longest miniature railway line in the country. The enchanting journey commences from the main station at Woody Bay, near the Lido's beach, meandering through the picturesque Ruislip Woods to Willow Lawn station, with a convenient stop near the Lido's car parks.

The history of the Ruislip Lido Railway dates to 1946 when it was originally constructed by the Grand Union Canal Company, envisioning the lake as a tourist attraction. Since 1979, the dedicated efforts of the Ruislip Lido Railway Society have extended the line, allowing it to encircle two-thirds of the lake's scenic shoreline.

Fares for riding the railway are affordably priced at £3 for a single trip and £4 for a return journey for adults, while children can enjoy the journey for just £2 one-way and £3 for a round trip.
