Greater Anglia is expanding its Duo scheme, which offers cheaper tickets to people taking day return journeys in pairs on weekends and public holidays.
The operator began Duo as a trial in 2012 and has gradually extended it to more routes. The latest move extends its coverage to most rural routes on the Greater Anglia network, including popular day-trip destinations.
Passengers may now use the tickets on trips between Norwich and Great Yarmouth/Lowestoft and between Ipswich and Felixstowe/Lowestoft.
When two adults travel together on a Duo ticket, the second passenger pays half the usual fare. Children can travel with any ticket holder for just £2 each.
New Duo tickets are now available on over 200 journeys that now include (amongst others):
- Norwich to Great Yarmouth
- Lowestoft to Norwich
- Ipswich to Felixstowe
- Bury St Edmunds to Ipswich
Previously, Duo tickets were only available on Greater Anglia's routes between London and Cambridge and between London and Manningtree/Harwich.
Passengers can buy Duo tickets online as e-tickets, or at ticket machines and ticket offices at stations, or from the conductor on the train.
While Duo is available for journeys into and out of Transport for London's Oyster pay-as-you-go area, it is not available for journeys wholly within the Oyster area (London Liverpool St to Shenfield, Broxbourne and Hertford East).
