Mid-Suffolk Light Railway to host ‘Middy in the 1940s’ event over the late May bank holiday

The will host its ‘Middy in the 1940s' event on Sunday the 28th and Monday the 29th of May and offers a wonderful history-based event with fun for families and enthusiasts alike.

The event brings history to life with a focus on the end of war days and will include steam train trips using veteran Great Eastern Railway 4-wheel coaches alongside resident locomotives Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST ‘Wissington' and 1906 Cockerill vertical boilered Belgian tram, both of which will be in steam.

An array of re-enactors will also provide displays of memorabilia alongside military and vintage vehicles.

It is hoped, weather permitting, that a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Hawker Hurricane will take place on Sunday the 28th of May. The event will also feature live 1940s-style music by Lauren Jennifer on both days.

Displays at the event will include:

  • The Home Guard
  • Soil Cinderellas Women's Land Army display
  • WVS “Make do & Mend”
  • George's Boys USAAF airforce re-enactors
  • Norfolk Forties Society re-enactors
  • Home Guard Firearms Civil Defenders Re-enactment Group
  • A wide selection of WW2-era military and civilian vehicles.
  • 4 Trade Stands – Assorted military memorabilia – 40s clothes, crockery, etc.
  • Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Hawker Hurricane flypast (28th only)
  • Live 1940s-style music both days with Lauren Jennifer

The event offers a fantastic day out and attendees are welcome to stay as long they wish whilst enjoying train rides however many times they like.

Tickets for the event can be purchased via the Middy website and will also be available to buy on the day at the Ticket Office.

Ticket Prices are £14 for adults, and £8 for children aged under 16 years with family tickets available for 2 adults and 2 children at £36.

The event will open on both days at 10.30am and close at 4.30pm
