Other improvements will include:

  • toilet refurbishments on the concourse and platforms 4 and 7,
  • a new changing place toilet,
  • water refill unit,
  • platform and concourse seating,
  • waste facilities
  • LED lighting upgrades.

Throughout the station, new Customer Information Screens will be installed in current and additional locations, as well as new screens that provide information about onward journeys including bus information.

Within the concourse an interactive screen will be installed, the ticket office will be repurposed to create a new retail unit, and there will be a new customer service desk with ticket selling facilities. Additional ticket vending machines will be provided and the gateline will be repositioned with additional standard and wide aisle gates.

A new quiet room will be provided for those customers who require a safe, isolated space while waiting for their train.

To minimise disruption during these works for both customers and the local community, Transport for Wales is working closely with industry and local partners. From Saturday, 27th May until early 2024 a work site compound will be in place in the Chester West car park, which will reduce the number of spaces available. Chester Station East car park will be unaffected.

‘Meet the Manager' sessions will be held at Chester station ahead of and during the works as follows::

  • Tuesday, 23rd May – 9 am – 3 pm
  • Thursday, 1st June – 12 pm – 7 pm
  • Friday, 16th June – 9 am – 3 pm
  • Wednesday, 21st June -12 pm – 7 pm
