Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Rt. Hon. Michael Gove MP has officially opened the new rail Components Facility at Siemens Mobility rail village.
Mr Gove was joined by Siemens Mobility's Managing Director for Rolling Stock and Customer Services- Sambit Banerjee and local apprentices for the special event on Thursday the 20th of April 2023.
The impressive £7m facility will bring a further 30 new skilled positions to the area during 2024 and will oversee the maintenance of gearboxes, traction motors and parts for train and tram fleets from all over the UK.
Previously, the components facility was operated in a small location in Leeds which already had 40 full-time team members, five of which being local apprentices. The state-of-the-art, brand new 4000sqm facility will support the maintenance of parts into the future and will see work that would usually be carried out in mainland Europe completed at the Goole site.
The opening of the facility is a mark of Siemens Mobility's ongoing commitment to the UK and was built by local company GMI which also undertook the building of the rest of the Siemens rail village.
GMI's supply chain comes entirely from the UK of which 70% is Yorkshire based. Siemens Mobility aims to see Goole become a centre of excellence in rail technology for the UK.

What's more, our state-of-the-art rail village will enable us to drive forward a smarter, greener and more digital rail network.“
Andrew Percy, MP for Brigg and Goole said:
“The rail village at Goole is one I have visited many times and worked closely with Siemens Mobility to mark many milestones in recent years. It clearly shows how local investment creates jobs and opportunities, not just directly in the rail industry but the vital support services too with a recently opened new cafe and office space this is a hub of employment opportunities.“
It is anticipated that Siemens Mobility's huge investment will see 700 new jobs created alongside an extra 250 positions whilst construction is underway, and 1,700 indirect supply chain opportunities created with a focus on promoting localisation and working to support other global markets by 2030.
