The freight operator is focused on being both the safest and most supportive rail freight business in the sector, and its investment will work to support achieving that goal.

The two new health and well-being centres cost £22,000 to build and feature state-of-the-art technology in order to offer preventative, convenient healthcare for every employee in order to grow a safer, healthier and happier working environment.

The centres will support GB Railfreight's industry-leading health and well-being support using the most up-to-date technology and will be able to check all Train Managers and Rail Operators' hearing, vision, blood pressure and even carry out ECGs (electrocardiograms).

The health checks will also be available to all current drivers as part of their annual checkup alongside HQ staff members whilst completing their Personal Track Safety training. Medical testing will be overseen by the freight operator's Chief Medical Officer – Dr Manuel Fernandes, who has more than 30 years of medical experience.

The Health & Wellbeing centres will support GB Railfreight's sustainability strategy by enabling vital check-ups which ensure both the health and safety of its frontline teams as a priority. The ability to confirm that staff members are fit for operating locomotives will see a reduction in accident numbers due to ill health.
