C2C has announced that 5.9% national rail fare rises will increase the price of a peak time return from Southend Central to London Fenchurch Street to £22.60 from £21.40, and a typical monthly season ticket from Basildon to London Fenchurch Street from £308.40 to £326.50.
Pointing out that the increases come as part of the government's national policy for ticket price changes, the company has explained that the new fares will be added to its website on 5 March 2023.
Customers may buy tickets before this date at their current price, even for a date of travel after 5 March.
The government announced in December that it would cap fare rises in 2023 at 5.9%, highlighting that this figure is 6.4 percentage points lower than the July 2022 Retail Price Index, which usually forms the basis for fare rises.
C2C is encouraging commuters to consider a flexible season ticket if they work some days from home and some at the office or workplace.
There has been some vandalism at Basildon station last week which caused a lot of damage to the station. And also vandalism at Westcliff and Southend East stations in Southend. I’m pretty sure who is responsible for these actions will be caught and charged with criminal damage.
