For the next three weeks, services on the valley lines in South Wales will be severely disrupted due to work in connection with transforming the Core Valley Lines for the South Wales Metro.
Between Radyr and Pontypridd there will be no services between Sunday, 8th, and Friday, 27th January, except for Thursday, 12th, and Friday, 13th January.
Between Cardiff Central and Radyr, there will be no services between Sunday, 8th January, and Wednesday, 11th January.
From Pontypridd to Treherbert, Aberdare, and Merthyr Tydfil, there will be no services between Saturday, 14th, and Sunday, 22nd January.
When train services are suspended, rail-replacement bus services will be provided and train tickets will be accepted on selected local bus services.
When the South Wales Metro opens, it will significantly improve connectivity throughout South Wales by unifying rail, bus, and active travel routes, which in turn will provide better access to jobs, leisure, and other opportunities. The project has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government.
During the current round of closures, overhead line equipment and foundations for new signals will be installed, the railway embankment at Pentre-bach station will be widened, and Devil's Footbridge and Quakers Yard Footbridge will be improved. Engineers will also divert a major gas main along the Treherbert Line.
Passengers intending to travel on local bus services during the rail closures should refer to the TrawsCymru website or app, or the Cardiff Bus and Stagecoach Bus Journey Planner websites, for the latest information on their planned route.
Information posters will also be displayed at stations across the affected lines and the TfW JourneyCheck website will be regularly updated.

TrawsCymru service T4 operated by Stagecoach from Cardiff Central to Pontypridd:
- Cardiff Central – from Greyfriars Road (customers can catch the train to Queen Street and then walk to Greyfriars Road instead of walking the whole route)
- Cardiff Queen Street – service T4 from Greyfriars Road
- Cathays – service T4 from Greyfriars Road
- Llandaf – services 24 and 25 from Station Road
- Radyr – service 63 from Heol Isaf
- Pontypridd – service T4 from Pontypridd Bus Station
