The date for starting work on replacing the lift on the platforms at station in East London has been changed, and work will now start on Thursday, 1st February.

West Ham is a key interchange between the National rail network and Transport for London's District Line services. Once it has been replaced, the lift's condition and reliability will be significantly improved.

While the works are taking place, anyone who requires step-free access is strongly recommended to avoid using West Ham station. Instead. those needing to travel to West Ham should travel to Barking, then use the District Line service back to West Ham.

Similarly for passengers travelling from Fenchurch Street to West Ham, who should continue on to Barking then travel back to West Ham on District Line services.

Customers who wish to find out about alternative travel options should call c2c's team on 0345 744 4422 or email passengerassistance@c2crail.co.uk for more information.

c2c's Asset and Property Director, Ben Martin, said: “This investment into the lift at West Ham station will greatly improve reliability but we understand the upgrade will be disruptive to our customers.

“I would urge anyone requiring step-free access at West Ham station, including carers with prams or buggies, to find an alternative route to the station until the works are completed in late Spring 2023.

“We are committed to creating an accessible railway, however during the West Ham lift works we strongly encourage customers to travel through Barking and Limehouse if they choose to pre-book their assistance with us.”

  • What about Laindon. The lift at Laindon has been out of action for long time unless it’s already been fixed.
