South Western Railway announces new December timetable – with improved London and Portsmouth services

A new timetable is being prepared for introduction on the network.

Set to come into force on the 11th December, the new timetable is set to provide sufficient capacity whilst improving customer journeys.

Improvements in the new timetable include:

Currently, South Western Railway says that demand continues to be below capacity, with numbers stablised around 69% of pre-pandemic levels, and peak time travel at just 53%.

Steve Tyler, Performance and Planning Director for South Western Railway, said: “This new timetable will broadly maintain current service levels across our network, while delivering more consistent and efficient service for our customers, based on close scrutiny of current travel patterns.

“We are confident our service levels adequately meet current demand on the network, but will continue to monitor changes in customer flows to adapt with agility where funding can be secured.”

  • Still no news on the Class 701 “Arterios”. When are they due to enter service South Western Railway.
