RAIB to produce safety digest after tram derailment on Nottingham Express Transit System

At a set of points just south of Highbury Vale tram stop on the (NET) system, a tram derailed.

The incident occurred around 07:17 on 30th September 2022, the tram was in service but luckily there were no passengers on board when it derailed.

The tram was travelling north from David Lane tram stop was intending to take the left hand route at the points towards Phoenix Park. When the tram reached the toe of the switches, the points moved to the mid-position, causing the derailment.

At the time of the derailment, the tram was travelling at approximately 11km/h and caused some damage to the infrastructure and tram.

There is a preliminary examination into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The evidence currently gathered has been assessed and a safety digest is to be published.

The safety digest will be available in the coming weeks.
