The Great Central Railway Reunification project took a step forward earlier this month when the original bridge over the A60 road has been demolished to make way for its replacement.
The bridge over the A60 is key to the project as one day it will carry two lines.
The first line will connect to the national network, and the other line will be the through line between Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire.
However, the current 125 year old bridge was deemed beyond economical repair so the decision was made to remove it and replace it.
The new structure is expected to be in place by the end of October / early November.
Whilst there are to be no changes to the railway gradient, the distance between the road and the bottom of the bridge will be slightly greater to reduce the risk of bridge strikes.
The bridge will also have crash protection installed on it.
