Members of the public are being invited to a big birthday shindig to celebrate Carriage 837's 120th birthday at the award-winning Museum.

The carriage has seen a remarkable life to date, being built in 1902 for the Great Southern and Western Railway and working throughout carrying emigrants to ports such as , Rosslare and Queenstown/Cobh.

The carriage also carried holidaymakers to Killarney, troops from Curragh army camp and during 1960 was converted into a holiday camping coach.

The 1970s saw the carriage utilised by civil engineers for the mending of bridges and was later bricked up at an engine shed in Mulling for 20 years.

The carriage has recently arrived at Whitehead Railway Museum in Country Antrim where its long years of service will be celebrated with a 120th birthday party on Saturday the 1st of October.

The special event will be fun for all the family and will see The Jazzmeisters Trio performing on the platform between 12pm and 2.30pm. Visitors can also enjoy a visit to the Platform 3 Cafe for an array of tasty food and drinks, have a good look around the Whitehead Railway Museum and enjoy a tour of the special carriage. Facepainting will also be available.

Visitors can also enjoy the colourful and charming seaside town of Whitehead and experience the wonder of steam by getting on board at the Whitehead Excursion Station for a trip within the museum's premises
