Rail Aid is on the lookout for more people to join the Elizabeth line Rail Trail this October

The fundraising initiative will see a 15-mile walk which will follow the new route between Woolwich and Paddington

The unique Rail Trail event has been organised as part of Rail Aid 2022 and is supported by and Mass Transit (MTR) Elizabeth Line.

The rail industry has rallied to support the special event by signing up, however, there is space for more participants so why not join rail industry colleagues from , Angel, MTR, ORR, TfL, Worldline, RDG, and along with those from HMRC, London Southbank University and the NHS.

The walk is ideal for individuals, groups of all ages, friends and colleagues and every penny raised will provide essential funding for the which supports children living on the streets and railways of India, East Africa and the UK. The event aims to raise approximately £25,000 for the charity.

Those taking part in the event will receive a map, a Walk the Elizabeth Line T-Shirt, and a stamp at each station on the route and everyone who finishes the walk will revive a medal, marshals will also be on hand to help participants.

 

Gareth Powell, TfL's Chief Customer and Strategy Officer said: “The Elizabeth line is already proving to be a transformational part of the transport network, offering more seamless journeys. The Elizabeth line Rail Trail will offer budding walkers of all ages a chance to transform the lives of vulnerable children in the UK, India and Tanzania while seeing some of the spectacular sights of London including nine of the newly built stations.”

Jack Miller, Group Director of Fundraising for Railway Children said: “We are thrilled to be working with TfL and MTR on the Elizabeth line rail trail, a new event for Rail Aid 2022, which has been generously sponsored by SMBC Leasing. Our wonderful partners within the UK transport network continue to amaze us and it's fantastic to create such a unique, inclusive fundraising event and celebrate the opening of the Elizabeth line. This is such a good opportunity to raise funds for Railway Children and support the children we work with and can't wait to see a wave of walkers along the route in October.”

The Elizabeth line was officially opened in May this year, marking the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and also the end of the vast rail project that has seen industry collaboration to create one of the most elaborate projects in decades.

The Elizabeth Line Rail Trail event will take place on Friday the 7th of October and is only £20 to enter with those taking part must take a pledge to raise a minimum of £100.
