Nexus provides details of how national rail strike will affect Metro customers.

employees are not part of the national strike action which is taking place on Saturday the 1st and Saturday the 8th of October, however, it will have an effect on services which run between Pelaw and South Hylton as this part of the network is owned and managed by . Due to the industrial action, Network Rail will not have sufficient employees working to operate signals and this means that trains will not be able to run.

There will be no Metro services operating between Pelaw and South Hylton on Saturday the 1st and Saturday the 8th of October.

Customers wishing to travel within this area on the above dates will need to find alternative travel options. For options by bus, please view the Journey Planner for buses.

Replacement buses are not possible due to the short notice of strike days with customers advised to seek different travel modes or delay their journeys.

Ticket acceptance will be in place for the area affected by the strike action on the following bus services:

  • Stagecoach: X24,18/18A, 8, 10/11
  • Go North East: 9, 56
  • Gateshead Central Taxis: 558

Further is also expected on the days following the strike action and will mean that services operating between Pelaw and South Hylton will not be available until 7am on Sunday the 2nd and Sunday the 9th of October.

The rest of the Metro network may see some early morning trains unable to operate.
