The Avena Group and UK's Rail Service division have partnered up to recycle Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Typically, PPE is disposed of through incineration or sent to landfill, Avena offers different solutions which recycles up approximately 90% of material in PPE.

This majorly reduces the Colas Rail UK's Rail Services carbon footprint as the 10% left over in then recycled for other products.

The new recycling scheme was undertaken in October 2021. Since then, Colas Rail UK's Rail Services have reduced their carbon emissions by 8 tonnes and saved 2,941,290 litres of water.

Through the continued changes they are predicting a reduction of emissions by 37 tonnes per year which equivalates to taking 12 cars off the road.
