This summer, Cambrian Heritage Railway have teamed up with Stonehouse Brewery to introduce the ‘Brewery Express'.
Evening services will be held from Oswestry to Stonehouse Brewery, which is next to Weston Wharf Station.
Due to high demand, there will also be a Wednesday service to their normal weekend schedule.
From 5pm, every Friday and Saturday the railway will be running three trains on the hour.
The Pacer unit being used has also previously been used on the mainline as part of Transpennine Real Ale Trail before it moved into preservation.
CHR General Manager, Andy Green said: “We are fortunate that Stonehouse Brewery is just yards from Weston railway station.
“The evening trains are already proving very popular and customers are enjoying the uniqueness of an ‘Ale by Rail' experience. Customers just need to keep an eye on the time and make sure they don't miss the last train home!”
Stonehouse Brewery co-founder Shane Parr is also enthusiastic about the new service: “Our customers already recognise the quality of our dining and the range of fine ales we offer. Arriving by heritage train just adds that little bit of class to a great evening out.”
All power to this initiative and I hope the trains are well patronised. However, calling a Pacer a “heritage train” is a bit of a stretch. These trains have only just been retired from the mainline network where they were pretty much universally unloved because of their very poor ride quality on their non-bogie 4-wheel chassis, their noise and their draftiness.
