Father Christmas to greet visitors at Lappa Valley Railway

The Railway at St. Newlyn East between and is preparing for , and some of its special Christmas trains are already sold out.

Christmas at Lappa Valley is a very special time, where children get to meet Father Christmas in his grotto, and every child receives a present from one of his elves.

Visitors will board a steam train at St. Newlyn East and travel from Benny Halt through the winter countryside to East Wheal Rose, which is the site of a former lead and silver mine with the original 1830s engine house and chimney still standing. At East Wheal Rose visitors can have their photos taken with Rudolph, the railway's friendly reindeer.

To entertain visitors there will be music from a traditional fairground organ, whilst at The Engine Shed there is a café and children can enjoy the indoor soft play area.

is state-of-the-art and is energy efficient. It includes an exciting multi-level soft play area with two play zones, one specifically for children under five and the other for those aged five to twelve. The indoor café extends onto a large, decked area immediately outside that overlooks a picturesque lake.

There is also the chance to ride the Woodland Railway and write and post letters to Santa.

Adults will receive a complimentary seasonal refreshment, whilst the gift shop at East Wheal Rose will be open to solve those last-minute present dilemmas.

Prices are £15.50 for adults and children aged from one to 15, whilst the cost for children up to one-year-old is £8.99. These charges include a present from Santa. For children up to one year old, there is no charge if they do not require a present from Santa.

When booking, it is necessary to specify the age group of children at the date of their visit, as Santa's gifts are chosen appropriate to their age. If a child's age is near the end of a category, it is best to move up to the next age category, for example, if a child is aged 5, it might be better for them to be in the age 5-8 age category.
