Last weekend, on the 30th and 31st July, the exhibition was open to the public, so that an event could also be held on Monday 1st August. The event held on Monday had dignitaries from within the community and the line to celebrate and mark the date that the station opened.

Tony Baxter, regional director at Northern said: “It has been great to celebrate this landmark date in the town's history.

“The commemorations and community events would not have been possible if it were not for the fantastic contributions from our volunteers, aided by the robust support from community stakeholders and the rail industry.

“Northern is proud to be a part of such rich heritage and community and as we look back on 160 years of progress, we also look forward to delivering further improvements in the area to continue to make a positive impact for the North.”
