Corris Railway to hold model railway exhibition this weekend

This weekend, the Society is holding its annual Model Railway Exhibition in the impressive surroundings of Y Plas in .

Y Plas is the former Welsh residence of the Marquesses of Londonderry but is now used as a community and a meeting venue.

After a two-year break because of Covid, the exhibition is returning over the August Bank Holiday weekend Saturday, August 27th and Sunday, 28th August.

On display will be a variety of layouts in scales ranging from N to 16mm, and a display of vintage and Gauge 1 models.

As well as the layouts and model displays, there will be stalls offering railway books, Corris-related items, railwayana, models, and a stall selling jewellery and ornamental items crafted from recycled glass.

The doors to Y Plas in Machynlleth will be open each day between 10.00 am and 4.30 pm. Admission £4 for adults and £2 for children, and a family ticket for two adults and two children is available for £10. Tickets can be purchased on the day or in advance from the Corris Railway's website which can be accessed here. Refreshments will be available and car parking is available nearby.

Trains will be also running on the nearby Corris Railway on both Saturday and Sunday on return trips along the beautiful Dulas Valley to Junction. They will depart from Corris station at 11.00 am, 12.00 am, 1.30 pm. 2.30 pm, and 3.30 pm.

At Corris station there is the chance to see the new transverser in operation.

Corris station is just four miles from Y Plas. From Machynlleth, follow the A487 towards Dolgellau and turn off into Corris Village at the Braich Goch Inn. Descend the hill past the church to find until you come to the entrance to the station yard. The Railway's Museum and Shop in Corris will be open. They can also book tickets in advance for both the Model Railway Exhibition and train rides on the Corris Railway here.

A new locomotive, No. 10 Falcon, is being built for the Corris Railway by Alan Keef Ltd. at Lea near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. an open day at their premises is being held on 24th September.
