East Midland Railway's brand new scheme will be open to community rail partnerships, station adoption groups, charities, community interest companies, schools, youth organisations and sports clubs.

The rail operator has also previously supported local communities via funding for community rail partnerships and station adoption groups back in 2019.

The first of a kind funding comes as part of a bid to support communities and organisations along the rail operator's routes.

The special funding has been created in a bid to inspire projects which make a difference to those who need it most. Part of the criteria for the funding requires that the group or organisation must operate within 15km of an station alongside meeting further requirements that the rail operator sets out.

A great example of a scheme supported by East Midlands Railway is the Bridge Art Project which features in the video below and describes how it saw a collaboration by a mix of organisations alongside the community to create a stunning mural which can be enjoyed by everyone.

Will Rogers, Managing Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “We are delighted to be able to launch this new and unique funding scheme.

“We know there are many positive projects and groups that make a difference in the communities we serve and we are looking forward to hearing from them to understand how we can help make their plans become a reality.”
