Network Rail is resuming work this summer on their £6.8m revamp plans to improve St Albans City station.
The scheme, hoping to be completed by 2023, will involve a second footbridge being installed to ease congestion and make changing platforms in busy periods easier. The work was paused in September 2021 but is now well underway.
As part of the first phase, a base will be built by engineers for the project team to work on plans. They will then be able to install the new footbridge in Autumn 2022.
The upgrade aims to make travelling from St Albans City station better and encourage more people to use the connections from the station, such as to Luton and Brighton.
Gary Walsh, East Midlands Route Director for Network Rail said: “I'm so pleased to see work restarting on this scheme, which will make using St Albans City station much easier for passengers at busy times.
“We're working carefully with our partners at Thameslink to make sure any disruption to station users and services is kept to the absolute minimum. I'd like to thank the community and local stakeholders for their patience and support.”
