The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has released details of recent trap and drag incidents on the London Overground.
On the 23rd June 2022, around 09:11 at Seven Sisters station, a person placed their hand between the closing doors of a departing train.
The train then began to depart with the person's hand still stuck in the doors. They were able to free their hand after running alongside the train for a few seconds. The train then stopped shortly after the incident.
Another incident occurred at Wembley Central station at 06:26 on the 27th June, a passenger placed an object believed to be a walking pole between the closing doors. The person was unsuccessful in removing the object from the doors and the train departed with the object still stuck. The train stopped after moving a short distance down the platform.
A third incident occurred at 13:46 on the 26th June, when a person on Crouch Hill Station placed an umbrella between the closing doors. The person again was unsuccessful in removing the object and the train stopped after a short distance.
While there were no significant injuries resulting from these incidents, an examination of the incidents has been carried out.
Based on the evidence gathered, a safety digest will be published in the near future.
When will people realise how stupid and dangerous it is obstructing closing train doors! I have no sympathy for anyone becoming dragged and injured when they have deliberately attempted to prevent the doors closing by placing an item in them.
