A recent survey, carried out by (LNER), revealed that adults in the UK are reconsidering travel habits since the recent scorching temperatures.

The research revealed that people have a rising concern for climate change since the heatwave and want to reduce their environmental footprint.

The UK experienced soaring temperatures of up to 40 degrees celsius in the past week. Post heatwave, the survey found that nine out of ten people associated climate change with the recent temperatures, which has grown 12 percent since before the heightened temperatures. This also correlates across to people also thinking of ways in which they can alter aspects of their lifestyles to help prevent such climate change.

One of the big areas being viewed in people's rethinking of habits is travel, which is being considered more and more. 25 percent of adults stated that they prioritise the travel type, which is better for the environment when going to and around a holiday destination.

London North Eastern Railway surveyed people who love to travel to see what they will be prioritising this summer, which found that just over half of those surveyed are eager to learn to be a sustainable traveller and that one in three will travel less to help reduce the damage.

The research has helped London North Eastern Railway to launch a second edition of the Green Guide. The Green Guide helps people make positive eco-friendly changes to their habitat and showcases sustainable options when visiting popular destinations. This edition features sustainable places to eat, sleep and visit while in , and .

The Guide will aid the 45 percent who have been planning trips to be able to enjoy the local area, with 51 percent preferring to visit local shops instead of chain shops.

The Green Guide is available at www.lner.co.uk/greenguides and can also be found in LNER travel centres.

David Horne, Managing Director at LNER, said: “This summer is set to be huge for domestic travel, so we're delighted to be launching the second version of our popular Green Guide to help people wanting to make more responsible travel choices. Our research shows half of British adults want to learn more about how to be a sustainable traveller, so the Green Guide is aimed at providing a wide range of inspiration on how to do this on the LNER route.

“Whether it's Lincoln Cathedral with its exterior recently revealed after nearly 40 years, or the Highland Food and Drink Trail in Inverness, we're seeing people from all around the world flocking to our destinations to seek out increasingly popular local experiences. This is becoming very important to the kind of traveller who wants to spend their money on authentic regional experiences, as well as taking the time to use the journey to switch off.”
